never try to get away from the fact that i love romance movies.
for the last project i did a music video for one of my favorite movies- the notebook.

falling in love with a film isnt odd, cuz i find myself some sort of connected to the story. and it actually reflects most of its viewers past. the first love is something cant get through easily, probably still lasts in heart over years and years. the film just captures the most precious innocence, misfortune and awkwardness

more importantly, it delivers the value system of love, though it is rare and only works in stories nowadays but touching is the point.

after a couple of years still cant get over each other and finally find the things they had been missing for years and go back to there.

so the process.
actually making a music video is not as easy as it seems.

1 i found the song in the movie shrek 2 – it is you i have loved, and i thought it fit the movie perfectly. so i started thinking about which scenes i should use in order to provide a smooth flow and connection to the lyrics.

2 i had all the scene i need cut and arranged in order. spent time adjusting the lenth and transition and effects.

3 i did a title for the opening and ending

4 in order to show some sort of the story elements, i put a video clip with the audio part from the movie right before the climax of the song. that part of the film was nominated as “best kiss scene ever”.

5 during the final adjustment, i cut some sex scenes because i realized i put too many of them hahahahah

overall i am very happy with what i did

and if you are interested in seeing my music video, check this out, and be sure to use the “HQ” funtion to see a better quality video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fbw8WbEsec

and i also recommend everyone to see the film, it is a tear jeaker movie and tears are accpetable =D

digital exhibition review- the feminism video

•April 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

At the very beginning of the semester, I went to the Jeff wall photography exhibition at Vancouver art gallery, a filed trip of photo history course. during my visit of the exhibition, I noticed there was a little video clip around the corner that illustrated an extreme feminism story which a woman rescues a guy, stands right in front of him and fights enemies. It came to my attention that most of the viewer liked it and thought that was impressive. I am going to talk about that video clip as a digital exhibition review.

The video was played in a small size TV and the sound came from two crappy speakers. Apparently the video was not well crafted or edited in term of the transition between clips and the buzz. The story is pretty simple and straightforward: a woman rescues a guy and takes him to somewhere safe. During the whole rescuing process, the video maker set everything reversed from the mainstream point of view in which male character usually are the heroes and females are often the ones being rescued. A woman in superman tights holds a guys hand and takes him running in a forest. And of courses on their way of getting free and safe, there are dangers and obstacles. The superwoman stands out and fights very time danger pops up such as bullets flying by or explosions. The woman blocks bullets with her fists and arms and meanwhile the guy hides behind the superwoman and seeks for shelter. There are lots postures and fighting skills showing by the woman in a way used by male character in most of the action movies. In the video clip, the woman is a representation of a heroic image and the guy shows his coward. Both two characters present viewers an opposite case against the normal situation. The video questions and challenges our stereotype of the relationship between hero and gender.

The way the film maker refuses to portray a traditional way of male being hero brings interesting thoughts. Whether who should be the hero is often determined by the mainstream stereotypes. In our culture, the dominant thoughts define male as being strong and brave (at least supposed to be). The opposite portrayal makes people see a new and refreshing way of showing the beauty of female. Furthermore gender is no longer should be an asset of heroes, so the old restriction and boundary of being heroes should be knocked off.

The video actually reminds me of a Hollywood film Cabwoman. In another feminism movie, the character Cabwoman is a sign of being strong, powerful and confident. She is not only being superior physically but also more insightful on relationship and life goals. She chooses not to stay with a guy who deeply loves her but to live a life untamed and stay with fierce and independence. The image of Cabwoman is well accepted by our culture, and her position in my heart is equal to Spiderman and batman.
The feminism video clip in Vancouver art gallery is a piece that shows our culture is developing to a more liberal way, people continue to get to know and accept more things that they used to doubt.

its been pretty fun to post works on the web and see how poeple comment on it =)

protecting works is a technical thing, basically by putting on watermark logos and lowering resolution can prevent work stealing. it is totally awesome to share ideas with people on the internet and thats why internet is so charming. but when it comes the situation that people steal works for making profit, it just feels  bad.

one thing that we cant deny is many artists making art works for a living. even creating works is more likely to be an artistic thing but as part of the society we cant ignore that life is daily.  unlike artists work for companies or clients, the independent or solo artists probably could be the ones that are victimized by stealing.
